update - 12th May, 2010
NEWS LAST WEEKEND CAME FROM DEREK HALES THAT TYRES ARE DUE IN THIS WEEK AND WILL BE AVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND.  PLEASE CONTACT HIM WITH YOUR PRE-ORDER FOR DELIVERY AT YOUR NEXT MEETING OR ARRANGE PERSONAL COLLECTION FROM NORFOLK.

update - 17th March, 2010
QUICK MESSAGE TO DRIVERS from KEITH WHALLEY...."Just to let you know that I am holding an extended drivers meeting at 4 o'clock on Saturday at Birmingham Wheels.  PLEASE MAKE SURE (IF YOU'RE BOOKED IN) THAT YOU ATTEND - IT IS IMPORTANT!" Keith
Whalley
On another note, the Steering Committee is on the look-out for another Driver Representative to sit on the Committee.  Any registered driver interested should inform Peggyann Lilley on or before Round 2 at Hednesford on 5 April.
.... and just a few general reminders, information and updates from the Steering Committee:-
In accordance with the new ORCi rules, each race unit will need to carry a fire extinguisher for each race car truck/van etc. etc.  To give you fair warning IT IS BEING TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY AND WILL BE CHECKED BY THE SCRUITINEERS.  WITHOUT ONE, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RACE.
The ORCi have made a decision that the SA2000 type race helmet CANNOT BE USED and has finally been outlawed.  This is after Barry Evans put in an appeal on behalf of Oval Track Legends for it to be allowed.  The ORCi rejected the appeal and have issued a warning that IF ANYONE IS CAUGHT USING A SA2000 THEY WILL FACE A LONG BAN!

update - 16th December, 2009
TECH NEWS - It was decided at the last Committee meeting (after much discussion) that for the 2010 season, the electrical cut off switches will have to be on the FIA type with a removable handle.  Derek Hales (as requested) has checked the price of a reliable switch, please beware of the cheap version - they are prone to failure.  Randall Motor Sport (01945 420 777) can supply a 6 pole switch with alternator protection for approx. £16 + VAT + postage.  These will be in stock with Derek Hales and he will carry a couple as back up on the parts trailer.

update - 9th December, 2009
TYRES 2010 - With reference to the changes going on with 600 Racing Inc and a tyre supplier: At the moment UK Oval Track Legends will run for 2010 on the ex Goodrich tyres.  In 2011 we will have the choice to run the new tyre plus the ex Goodrich, particularly if drivers have them in stock.  When Derek Hales is notified by INEX as to what is happening officially, he will get the information to all drivers via this website.

update - 30th November, 2009
MESSAGE FROM DES CHANDLER TO CLARIFY ROLL BAR PADDING:- "I understand that a few drivers may under-go repairs to their cars during the winter and it's worth bearing in mind, if you need to fit roll bar padding, then this would be a good time for me to clarify that the padding you require is SFI 45.1 - an energy impact absorbing material.  More info can be found on this following link:- http://www.rollbarpadding.com/downloads/SFI451.pdf " - Des Chandler

update - 27th October, 2009
RACE HELMETS
600 Racing have announced that you can continue using Snell 2000 or Snell 2005 race helmets for 2010.  They were going to phase these out for next year but have decided to give it another years grace in order to keep costs down.
HANS DEVICE
Likewise, 600 Racing had considered making the HANS Device compulsary.  This is now NOT the case.  The HANS Device will now be 'optional' for 2010.

update - 3rd October, 2009
NEWS FROM THE STEERING COMMITTEE - Drivers may already be aware that approved Lifting Eyes need to be fitted to all cars.  Derek Hales will be carrying a stock at a cost of £10 per set (1 set per car is required).
The Tech guys want to bring to the drivers attention that roll bar padding needs to be fitted to all cars as follows:-
2009 INEX RULEBOOK, page 41. "6. ROLL BAR PADDING: Roll bar padding (SDFI-45.1) on all bars within one foot of drivers helmet is MANDATORY."
It has come to light that some cars have cut-off switches that do not work!  Drivers are reminded that there is no leeway regarding cut-off switches - THEY HAVE TO WORK!
Derek Hales carries a stock of both Roll Bar Padding and Cut-Off Switches.  If neither are fitted then (in the interest of safety) you will not be permitted to race.

update - 7th June, 2009
TECH UPDATE FROM BARRY & DES
It has come to our attention that a number of drivers do not appear to know or understand the Legends Rule Book which clearly states that all drivers must understand the rules - if they do not then they should not be allowed onto the track.  Please read and learn the rules which will prevent any misunderstanding when cars are checked by your Tech Inspector.
Could you also remember that the Inspectors have the authority to check any car at any time during the race day - not just the first three cars home after each race.
Incarace/Spedeworth have informed us that they require all Legends Cars to be fitted with lifting eyes to the front and rear to enable ease of removal from the race track when damaged.  We are currently looking into this and will inform yo when we have found a suitable solution to the problem.
All drivers are reminded that they must bring any spare wings in their possession to have the INEX stickers attached before 01.07.2009.  Any wings not complying with this deadline cannot be used.  Any driver found to be running illegal body parts after that deadline will be excluded from racing unless prior arrangements have been made to have them fitted at the race track on the day of the meeting.  Any driver disregarding this rule will receive a fine of £500 and receive a lengthy ban.  This also applies to any components not originating from 600 Racing - the driver will be suspended from racing until the parts are replaced and the fine is paid.
This does not apply to mirrors, oil coolers and filters, gear change indicators, seats, head rests and aftermarket fans.  If in doubt, please check if the component falls into the exempted category to avoid any misunderstandings.

update - 9th May, 2009

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM DEREK HALES : Due to current noise restrictions at several tracks (Hednesford in particular) and at Deane Wood's request, it has been necessary to reduce the high frequency noise caused by Legends engines revving at 10,000rpm.
To comply with these restrictions we have no option at Oval Track Legends but to run a larger silencer which will be compulsary from the first meeting of the 2009 season.  The new silencer is available now at a cost of £100 + VAT
PLEASE CONTACT DEREK HALES WHEN YOU WISH TO PURCHASE ONE.

RULE CHANGE - PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
Subject : 600 Racing Inc. I July 2008 Banned For Life letter
July 21, 2008
TO THE 600 RACING AND INEX RACERS
July marks the mid-point of the 2008 racing season.  Everyone here at 600 Racing, INEX and Speedway Motorsports hope that you are having a fantastic racing season.  Despite some challenging economic conditions, the 600 Racing programs are once again experiencing wonderful growth throughout the world.  As a matter of fact, due to the fun and low cost nature of 600 Racing program, we are seeing a number of new competitors racing with us that at one time raced late model and other types of racing vehicles.
600 Racing and INEX continually monitor the health of our program through internal discussions, external observations and discussions with our racers.  In the normal course of these actions we periodically recognize areas within our program that can be strengthened and/or modified.  One good example of an area within our program that has been recently strengthened is the 600 Racing Engine Shop.  This state of the art facility has strengthened our program and at the same time saved our racers money on their engine rebuilds.
In May 2008, 600 Racing and INEX announced several changes to the INEX rulebook.  Since that time, we have had a number of internal discussions and discussions with racers regarding the penalty for a racer being in violation of the shock, engine seal, tire soaking, 1200cc engine and traction control rules.  Despite the severity of the five rules infractions, we at 600 Racing and INEX have come to realize that banning a racer for life from the 600 Racing program should not be necessary for a race to realize their mistake and to prevent them from repeating the infraction.  As a result, 600 Racing and INEX are removing the 'Banned For Life' penalty for a first time offender of these rules.  This penalty will be replaced with a one year suspension with escalations of penalties up to being banned for life from the 600 Racing and INEX program for racers being caught in violation of these rules on multiple occasion.  In addition, the appeal fee for these violations will be reduced to $1000 from $5000.  These modifications will be retroacted to May 18th, the date the rule change was originally implemented.
600 Racing, INEX and Speedway Motorsports are committed to providing our racers with a fun and affordable racing environment and growing the program into the future.
Best of luck during the remainder of your season and do not forget about the National events that are just around the corner.
The Management of 600 Racing and INEX Corporation.

TECH CHECK ON CARS
The driver or team member is reponsible to remove any item that the Tech Inspector wishes to check.
The Tech Inspector does not remove these items.  If an item to be checked cannot or will not be removed when requested, that car will be deemed to be illegal. i.e. if the Tech Inspector needs to check the compression ratio and the spark plugs are seized in the cylinder head and that check cannot be carried out then the car will be deemed as illegal and disqualified.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AND THAT ALL PARTS OF YOUR CAR CAN BE EASILY REMOVED.

TECH ITEM - Revision of the Rules
Derek Hales would like to inform all drivers of the following:-
"I have, today, received a revision to the rules regarding the lifetime ban on the cranking compression regarding 1200cc engines.  I will try and get a copy of the letter from INEX to you by including it in the next drivers newsletter."
Derek Hales
Oval Track Legends Car Dealer

5/27/08
To: All Legends Competitors, INEX Inspectors and 600 Racing Inc. Dealers
From: INEX
The lifetime ban penalty will be removed from the 1200 cranking compression rule.  The cranking compression rule will be enforced as written in the current (2008) INEX rulebook, using 165 as the maximum cranking compression.
The other rules addressed in the rule change letter (dated May 1st 2008) will remain as written in the letter.  Being found in violation of the tampered shock, tire softness, tampered engine seal and traction control rules will still carry the lifetime ban from all INEX sanctioned events.
Also, the $50,000 appeal fee (on above listed items) will be reduced to $5000.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION
INEX.
