NEWS FROM ALDERSHOT ON SUNDAY

IAN HALES LIFTS THE ARTHUR BRIGHT TROPHY FOR THE
SECOND YEAR IN SUCCESSION

No sooner had Ian Hales (6) arrived at Aldershot on Sunday to
hand back the Arthur Bright Trophy won last year, he was
taking it home again after winning through for a terrific drive
in the feature final.  He started at the rear of the grid alongside
fellow Superstar Martin Lamb (52) and took 25 laps to work his
way to the front and pass the front runner Chris Pye (151).
The race didn't go full distance and ended on lap 28 when
heat one winner, Stef Lloyd (21) took a spin on turn two.  He
was maintaining a good third place but the yellow flag was
issued, ending his hope of a podium finish.  Martin had crashed
out a few laps earlier when he and Robie Jukes (22) collided
coming out of turn two. The first three home were worthy of a top
finish, each of them quoted as ''enjoying the race.''  Chris stayed in second and Barry Randall (395) mastered his way into third from a blue grade start.
Rookie, Johnny Hall (326) enjoyed the day much better after being 'red crossed' in heat one for a trailing bumper.  He went on to take his best finish to date for a second place to Stef Lloyd (21) in heat two and a fine fourth place in the feature final.
John Townshend (42), relatively new to Legends, enjoyed a good finish in the first heat for fourth and on his birthday too!  Chris won that one, his first win in a Legends car since his return of seven years or more, which strenghtens his lead in the Rookie Championship.

NEWS FROM ROUND 7 AT HEDNESFORD ON BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY

PETERS PERFECT DAY

After a three meeting ban, Peter Blundell (156) returned to Oval Track
Legends on Bank Holiday Monday at Hednesford and blitzed the
opposition with a maximum haul of 600 points for a hat trick in heats
one, two and the 30 lap final consisting of 30 cars.  It was just a perfect
day for Peter and the points score sees him catapult from 22nd in the
National Points to 12th and to top it all, he also got the fastest lap of
the day.
"I've taken 14 Final podiums without a win until today and I'm over the
moon!" Peter commented after the race.  It wasn't an easy victory and
by no means was the win handed to him on a plate.  The hard work
started for Peter from 15th on the grid among the blue grade, having
being upgraded during the meeting for the two heat wins.  Top Rookie,
Chris Pye (151) took a strong lead from a pole start until the 5 lap board
came out and Peter piled on the pressure, closely followed by Branson
Poyner (5).  He had fought through to the front from a start alongside
Peter and came home for a third place finish and Chris hung on for a
strong second place.
Rob Preece (37) never expected a second place finish to Peter in heat
one and neither did Chris expect his car to fail post race checks through
a technical infringement.  The car was measured, as are the top three in all races, and found to be 'too long' meaning Chris had to forefeit his second place finish for a disqualification, giving the place to Rob.  The day got even better for Rob in the third heat when he raced his heart out to stay at the sharp end, only letting the rapidly approaching Andy Hartwell (55) get past him and he featured as runner-up.
Back to the second heat and the lead was taken up by Peter when leader Andy spun in the closing stages.  Dean Thompson (19) and Dan Hughes (48) tangled on their penultimate lap just as Peter took the chequers and headed into the wall on turn one.  Dean unfortunately didn't make the grid for the rest of the meeting and Team Hughes worked extensively on the #48 car to get him into the final and earn better results.

NEWS FROM ROUND 9 AT ARLINGTON 26th JUNE

TIM HUDSON DARES TO WIN AT ARLINGTON

Two wins out of three were well taken by Tim Hudson (64) at Arlington on 26th June
including the title of Sussex Champion.  The track is very narrow (even for Legends
cars) and bumpy.  It was a case of 'he who dares wins' as cars jostled for position,
through a very exciting meeting which even got the Officials in the box jumping up
and down!
Karl Monnery (23) sped off in heat one for a career first win, with a taste now of more
to come.  He may have won the next heat, except for when defending off John
Hudson (65) they crashed into turn three.  Stu Blyth (35) got caught up in the drama
and spun to the centre green to receive a black flag for getting the car on the grass.
The same minor crime was commited by Dan Hughes (48) a few laps later.
The feature final was gripping to watch although there wasn't much grip on the track
and Tim won through again for a fine win.  The result, thereafter, is under scruitiny
from fourth place onwards when the race briefly went under a waved yellow and shortly
after 'called' by the Race Steward.  A tight pack went into turn one, Dan Holden (161)
got hooked out and Branson Poyner (5) unavoidably hit into the 161 car such was the
speed the cars were taking. Dan received the black flag for the incident although the
official result will appear as soon as possible.

Winging their way down to the Suffolk Motorsport Show on Sunday 18th July should
be Jon Evans (11), Stef Lloyd (21), Derek Linley (32), Dan Holden (161), Barry Randall
(395) or Phil Moore (465) depending on the outcome of racing at Ipswich the previous
evening of course!  Last year the charity event, held in the centre of Bury St. Edmunds
attracted a lot of visitors and again this year the event will be held in the historic town
centre on Angel Hill and will be raising money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The show starts at 10am and is organised to bring together and showcase competitors
and their cars from the many categories of 4 wheeled motorsport across the area.
The photo (right) is a 'flashback' to the show last year with Tech Inspector Barry
Evans giving a visitor the run down on the 'pocket rockets',
Thanks go to Derek Hales (8) for providing the entry fee for Oval
Track Legends to be part of it again.

NEWS FROM ROUND 10 AT BIRMINGHAM WHEELS, SATURDAY 10th JULY

'MOORE' WINS AT BIRMINGHAM FOR PHIL

Phil Moore (465) is becoming something of a Birmingham Wheels track specialist
after winning a heat and the Summer Trophy final on Saturday night.  On an earlier
visit in the year he took home the City Trophy and after an even better performance
this time round should see him at least leading the Birmingham Track Championship.
Trophies for the top three in the feature final were kindly given by Paul Smith, a former
Legends pilot local to the track, and has now given up racing due to his health. He
felt he wanted to give something back to the formula that he had enjoyed racing in
and asked that it be raced for in the memory of his late wife Diane.  It was good to
see Paul's old car win the other two heats, now in the hands of Darren Smith (76) from
nearby Tamworth.
Yellow grader Darren looked all set for a hat trick except that his two heat wins
'promoted' him to the blue grade for the final and made it a tough job indeed.  He
started 14th on the grid and finished well up in 8th.  It was only top drivers, Branson
Poyner (5) for second place finish, Russ Bull (100) for 6th and fastest man on the night - Mike Walmsley (182) for 7th that managed to overtake him.
Leader of the Triple Crown, Peter Blundell (156), had stormed his way through from the red grade to 6th place over the first 10 laps or so but an ailing engine saw him slowly drop back to a 'not too bad' 10th place finish in the final.
Rookie Derek Linley (32) from Huddersfield has travelled far to compete in all but one of every round this year and had his best meeting to date with a fourth in heat one, a second place in heat three and third in the final to take home to Yorkshire his first Legends trophy - well earned and much deserved for being one of the most committed drivers out there!
It was bad news for John Hudson (65) laying second in the final, when he was mistakingly given the red cross flag for a noisy exhaust.  It should have gone out to Simon Rourke (60) but an error occured and John was wrongfully retired from the race.  The potential points lost are to be given to him however for this, such was the regret from the Race Steward.
